Kendo Rules
A match in Kendo consists of two Kendoka (kendo practitioners) who face off with the goal of scoring two points before their opponent. There are also 4 judges who observe and decide what counts as a point during the match. There are 4 targets you can hit to score a point in Kendo. They are the Kote (top wrist), Do (sides of the abdomen), and the Men (top of the forehead). The fourth target, called the Tsuki(throat), is only allowed if the participants are at least 1rst Dan (first level of black belt). With the 4 targets, there are also some criteria you need to meet for a hit to count as a point. Those being hitting the target with the right part of the shinai (the monouchi), yelling out (kiai) the target you are hitting, moving in the direction you are hitting and stomping (fumikomi) at the same time that you hit the target, good form, strong follow through, and overall show of spirit.
